- Mid-range / general fishing: 36-42 ft sport fishers. $750-$1,150/day.

2. Pick the right month

3. Stay in the right zone
The best marinas for sport fishing are Marina Cancún and Puerto Cancún. Hotels in the hotel zone (Zona Hotelera) are 5-15 minutes away. Hotels in Playa del Carmen or Tulum are 1-1.5 hour drives — feasible but adds time to your morning.
What to Expect on the Day

Common Mistakes US Travelers Make
- Booking the cheapest option without checking reviews. Cancún has both world-class and shady operators. Check Google reviews and TripAdvisor.
- Not matching season with target species. Booking sailfish in August means you’ll get mahi-mahi instead.
- Skipping Dramamine. Even calm-looking Caribbean has 3-4 ft swells offshore. Take it.
- Forgetting cash for tip. Most boats prefer cash tips at the end of the day.
- Booking too short a trip for billfish. 4-hour trips don’t reach prime billfish water. Get 8-10 hours for marlin or sailfish.
